Abstract

Charles R. Knight was one of the great popularizers of the prehistoric past. His vivid reconstructions and paintings of prehistoric animals and humans, were created over the course of more than 50 years to the middle of the 20th century. His paintings have influenced generations of museum-goers and anthropologists. Knight made models of prehistoric animals and painted scenes and murals of prehistoric life like dinosaurs, mammals and early humans. Although Knight worked in a scientific context and was guided in a large measure by the scientists commissioning his work.
