The Castilian ecclesiastic governmental documentation of the Early Modern Age is still an obscure subject. We ignore the document typologies, and the structure and operating rules of the diocesan administration of that historic period. This paper explores such questions through the study of the public examinations of parish benefits of the Diocese of Badajoz (Spain), which was the established system to select new priests during the ordinary months in the Castilian dioceses in the Council of Trent.
