Abstract

Hepatosplenomegaly (HS) is a physical sign that is frequently detected in the pediatrician's office. Normal hepatic size is based on values established by percussion, extending below the right costal ridge, or the length of the vertical axis estimated by imaging studies. HS can originate from five fundamental mechanisms: inflammation, excessive deposition, cellular infiltration, blood flow congestion, hepatobiliary and hematological obstruction. The management of this pathology is focused on early diagnosis, and treatment depending on the etiology identified in the studies, evaluating whether the process is acute or chronic, patient stability, age group, risk factors, among other variables [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
