Hepatosplenomegaly (HS) is a physical sign that is frequently detected in the pediatrician's office. Normal hepatic size is based on values established by percussion, extending below the right costal ridge, or the length of the vertical axis estimated by imaging studies. HS can originate from five fundamental mechanisms: inflammation, excessive deposition, cellular infiltration, blood flow congestion, hepatobiliary and hematological obstruction.
