Abstract

The article presents the author's analysis on the usage of modifiers in general literature writing. Consider the phrase "Walking by one evening, the lights had been left on in...the conference room." According to the author "Walking by one evening," does not logically attach to the lights, which is the subject of the main clause and which do not perambulate. The author suggests to make it the main clause say "(Someone) noticed that the lights had been left on." Several similar types of examples, along with corrections and justifications are given in the article.
