Abstract

Metal coatings with good conductivity and hydrophobicity property were prepared on wood surface via a simple electroless nickel (Ni) approach. The variation of crosssectional area for coatings on wood surface was investigated. The cross-sectional area of the coatings increased as the number of deposition steps was increased. The resistance, conductivity, and hydrophobicity property of the coatings were obviously enhanced with the increase in the number of depositions. The composite structure was characterised with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images. The conductivity and hydrophobicity property of the ideal coatings on wood surface can be greatly improved. Here, the resistance of longitudinal coatings was as large as 28.4 mΩ and the conductivity can be up to 706.7 S/cm. The resistance of the coatings was decreased 5 times compared with that of coatings obtained via a single deposition. The contact angle of coatings varied in angle between 90.7 and 116.89°. The cross-sectional area change of coatings had a direct influence on the properties of coatings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
