Abstract

Social networks and Massively Multiplayer Online Worlds offer new ways of interacting. Hence, the advent of new technologies brings questions as to what determines the use of these virtual environments. How is communication impacted when it is mediated by a screen? The aim of the present paper is to examine how psychology may highlight and help to better understand what influences the use of these new media. According to one's past, representations, and personality, there are many ways of benefitting from or of developing problematic use of these media. The Internet can provide what one is looking for and may perhaps also reflect who one is. This latter hypothesis was tested in a study on the use of Facebook among a sample of adolescents and young adults. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
