Abstract

This paper proposed a new method of seamless terrain rendering based on curve fitting and GPU. It could solve the screen discontinuity problem and the problem of small frame rate in real-time rendering. The algorithm used curve fitting function based on least square method. It could eliminate cracks by controlling the layout of the vertices of the different layers of the grid. This paper constructed resolution-based pyramid model,introducing lossy or lossless compression data at different levels of detail. The algorithm extracted the corresponding data in real-time by the viewpoint prediction. The experiments show that the frame rates are high and the variation of frame rates is small when the large-scale terrain is being rendered,cracks are eliminated efficiently,the rendering is steady.
