Abstract

The article reports on the decisions of several top researchers to leave academic and government posts for jobs in the pharmaceutical industry. Drug company Novartis hired Mark C. Fishman, a Harvard Medical School professor, as the president of its Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Ron Malachuk, a principal at executive search firm Korn Ferry, attributed the trend to efforts of drugmakers to develop intellectual property and increase innovation.
