The article discusses a study that developed a novel process for synthesizing highly active mesoporous alumina catalysts from aluminium foil waste. Researchers at Queen's University Belfast in Northern Ireland created foil-derived catalysts which are said to offer better surface and bulk characteristics than commercial alumina in terms of surface structure and surface acidity. They are exploring the use of the catalysts in the catalytic converters of natural gas vehicles.
