Jazzing up Jazz Band.

The author discusses the experience of presenting jazz workshops across the country on behalf of the Thelonious Monk Institute which has gained him experience that too many school jazz bands are plaving very little jazz. Topics discussed include how aching and learning of jazz can and should be an integral component of every high school jazz band rehearsal, listening to the definitive recording together in class, identifying the key players and teaching students how to count rhythms.
