Abstract
- The article discusses the notion of the urban cowboy in late 20th century U.S. culture. Topics include the relation of cowboys to the popularity of play, a comparison of form U.S. President Jimmy Carter to former U.S. President Ronald Reagan, and the relation of masculinity to conservatism in U.S. culture during the 1980s. The relation of heterosexulity, homophobia, and Native American culture to cowboy culture and rodeos is addressed.
