Abstract
- The modularity strategy contributes towards the partnership between automakers and suppliers in making the outsourcing on the part of the design activities, manufacture and assemblies of the vehicles. However, that strategy gives rise to challenges for the suppliers to adapt themselves to the new requirements and activities taken. This way, it is the objective of this research work to develop a theoretical model of deployment of the modular strategy in the suppliers through the use of Axiomatic Design (AD) utilizing bibliographic research data. It was found that the main attributes of the automakers for the selection of modulus suppliers are the Know-How of the enterprises, level of quality of the products and services supplied; financial health; logistics flexibility, associated risks and competitive price. This means that the automakers will only outsource activities for its suppliers if these succeed in accomplishing them in a satisfactory manner and at a cost which justifies the outsourcing. For this reason when the split of the hierarchical structure of the AD is performed, the need that the suppliers have installed departments of customer management, of manufacture, product design and of logistics with competencies which meet the level of competency demanded by the automakers is checked. It logical that this does not mean that the supplier cannot outsource some of these activities to specific enterprises but it will be itself which will account for the failures in the customer. With the conclusion of the split of the proposed model and the making of the sequence of application with the package and junction diagram and flowchart confirmed the viability of the use of the AD in meeting the objective of this size.
