Abstract

The article focuses on some developmental theories which are responsible for the shape and direction of developmental psychology. Developmental psychologists have been preoccupied with the shape or form of development since the early days of developmental psychology. One of their main concerns has been to specify the developmental function of the characteristics i.e., behaviors, traits, abilities, processes, etc. that are of interest to them. Developmental scientists must study understand, and model the harmony to succeed in their goal by shifting from the teleological conceptions of development to a more neutral, person-time-and-situation-geared conception of development.
