Abstract

Sustainable transport has become an important concept as a reaction to global climate changes. Climate change has always belonged among main factors in human society development. Recently such global changes have been gaining speed and strength. The main motor of these changes is increases in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions originated in energy, industry and transport sectors. This is the reason why the Czech Republic adopted a document called Climate Protection Policy. The aim of this policy is to reduce negative impacts by effective mitigation and adaptation measures and to support sustainable development of society. One third of GHG emissions in EU is produced by transport (transport is the second biggest source of GHG emissions after energy sector). Total volume of CO2 emissions produced by transport in the Czech Republic has been continuously increasing. This trend is related to increase in volumes of individual car passenger transport and of road freight transport. This paper focuses on the development of CO2 emissions from transport in individual regions of the Czech Republic. This paper presents development of CO2 emissions in connection with transport performances and it analyses this development. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
