Abstract
- Objective To study the correlation between handgrip and bone mineral density (BMD) in postmenopausal women. Methods The handgrip and BMD were measured in 120 postmenopausal women. The patients were divided into ≤60 yrs group, 61-70 yrs group, and >70 yrs group. The effect of age on handgrip and BMD was studied. The correlation between handgrip and BMD was studied with univariate Person's analysis and scattered diagram. Results The maximal handgrip was 25.86±4.77 kg in the patients aged ≤60 yrs, 23.37±4.64 kg in the patients aged 61-70 yrs, and 16.63±5.40 kg in the patients aged >70yrs. BMD showed that 65 patients had T score ≤ -2.5 at the femoral neck and 90 patients had T score ≤ -2.5 at the lumbar spine. The handgrip and BMD decreased with increase of age in postmenopausal women. Conclusion The greater handgrip it is, the higher BMD at the femoral neck and lumbar spine in the postmenopausal women. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
