Abstract

Pig breeding has been an important meat supplier since the early 1970 s. In 2013, 111 million tons of pork meat was produced in the world. In comparison to other four main types of farm animals, pork meat with a share of 36% ranks first in all world meat. This paper presents and analyzes changes in the most important parameters of pork meat production (number of live and slaughtered pigs, carcass weight and average meat quantity per pig, gross production and production per capita of pork meat) since 1960 s by continents and by individual countries. The article especially presents the data on pork meat production in Russia for the last 20 years. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
