Abstract

Respiratory diseases represent one of the major causes of mortality due to diseases in Brazil and worldwide. Located in the southern portion of the Amazon, the municipality of Porto Velho is located in a region with a high rainfall index, especially during the months of November to April, in June, July and August occurs the driest period of the year. The low relative humidity of the air and high temperatures of that time can have consequences on the health and welfare of the population. This work aims to understand the relationship between hospitalizations for respiratory diseases and the behavior of temperature and relative humidity in Porto Velho (RO) in the period from 2010 to 2015. The meteorological data used belong to the network of meteorological observations of Aeronáutica - REDEMET. Epidemiological data were collected from the database of the Department of Informatics of the Sistema Único de Saúde (DATASUS). The analyzes showed that the greatest number of hospitalizations almost always occurs in March and April. This data rejects the hypothesis that the dry season would be highlighted in the registry of respiratory diseases in the region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
