Abstract

Byung-Chul Han describes the society of our times as a society of tiredness, of boredom, because of many current phenomena such as acceleration, hyperactivity, etc., which, at least, don't give place for interruption, for any pause. The socio-philosophical diagnosis made by Han, based on Arendt's or Agamben's thought, is understood as a thematization and interrogation of fatigue phenomenon itself, which is in my opinion not entirely clear in his work. Therefore, I propose a description of fatigue based on the resources provided by phenomenology. Thus, I will ask if fatigue is a phenomenon of openness, that gives us lucidity, or on the contrary, if it is a phenomenon of closure and opacity, that closes us to the experience of the world and of others. In order to clarify this problem, I will first interrogate the relationship between tiredness, wakefulness and attention, and at the end of this paper, I will then try to outline a fundamental distinction between fatigue and laziness.
