Abstract

The article comments on the points made by professor William A. Koelsch in his paper "The Historical Geography of Harlan Barrows." This commentary has three main purposes to support the point made by Koelsch, in his informative and thought provoking paper. To suggest that Koelsch has tried too hard to absolve environmentalist Harlan Barrows of any leanings whatsoever towards environmentalism, since in several cases these leanings have sounder support than Koelsch supposes and to suggest that historical geography in general might benefit more, not less, from attention to environmental influences.
