Abstract

Rabies is a viral zoonosis that affects the central nervous system, acute and often fatal outcome. Through notifications sent to the SES-MT (Secretary of State of Mato Grosso Health), it was carried out a mapping of positive cases of rabies in different species that occurred in the period from 2002 to 2011 in the State of Mato Grosso. 915 cases of rabies were diagnosed in the state during that period. Animals of different species were affected by the disease. The bovine was notably more notified with 80.00% (736) of cases, followed by the canine with 12.56% (115), equine 5.57% (51) the chiroptera with 0.65% (6), the feline, swine, sheep and mules with 0.21% (2, 2, 2, 3), caprine, and primate species with 0.1% (1) each. However, there was a significant reduction in canine cases. In this sense it was observed that different species were affected, demonstrating the viral circulation in the State of Mato Grosso.
