In recent years several projects collecting toponyms have been carried out in the Gorenjska region. The projects focused on the recording of the dialectal form of toponyms and their use among local population. The article presents and draws attention to the significant differences between common uses of geographical names at the local level and formal use of names collected in the Slovenian national Register of Geographical Names, which consequently appear on official maps.
