Abstract

The article explores the role of court dysfunction in the eviction suffered by New Yorkers who live in rental housing. Topics covered include how landlord-friendly laws adopted by Albany, New York and haphazard regulation governing landlords and tenants in the city have led to the disappearance of affordable housing and contributed to rising homelessness, some of the steps taken by landlords especially corporate owners to push tenants out, and implications of eviction suits on tenants.
