Abstract

The article focuses on a study on ox desaturase gene sequences from 80 animal species including Cnidaria, Rotifera and Mollusca. The study found that the ability to produce polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) de novo and further biosynthesis of long-chain PUFA are possessed by multiple invertebrates.
