Emission enhancement of Sr3YP3O12:R (R = Dy3+ and Eu3+) phosphors for light-emitting diodes by adding H3BO3 flux.

Abstract

Sr 3 YP 3 O 12 :R (R = Dy 3+ and Eu 3+ ) phosphor is synthesized by high temperature solid-state reaction method in air. The crystal structure and luminescence properties are investigated. Sr 3 YP 3 O 12 :Dy 3+ phosphor with excitation at 350 nm emits yellow light in the range of 450–780 nm. Sr 3 YP 3 O 12 :Eu 3+ phosphor with excitation at 394 nm shows red emission in the range of 550–760 nm. The emission intensity of Sr 3 YP 3 O 12 :R (R = Dy 3+ and Eu 3+ ) phosphor is enhanced ∼1.5 and 1.8 times, respectively, when H 3 BO 3 as flux is added. The luminous mechanisms of Sr 3 YP 3 O 12 :R (R = Dy 3+ and Eu 3+ ) phosphor are explained by energy level scheme of Dy 3+ and Eu 3+ ion.
