Abstract
- The article discusses how unsolved problems about the extant copies of Chaucer's poems reflect uncertainty between author and reader. It mentions that an earlier paper considered the unique manuscript of the revised Prologue to the Legend of Good Women, which was written before his death in 1400. It reveals that using standard techniques of linguistic analysis, it proposes that language underlies the extant copy of the poem and that Chaucer's authorship of the whole is indisputable.
