Abstract: New method for experimental safety evaluation of short span bridges using the example of 14 bridges in Hannover, Germany A request on safety evaluation of culverts and short span bridges in the urban woods Eilenriede in Hannover motivated to develop and field test a new economical approach for load testing. Demolition and renewal should be avoided. A concept was worked out, how load testing could be conducted cost‐efficient with little risk of failure using mobile crane and monitoring system. This paper describes preconditions, developed procedures and summarizes our experience gained in testing successfully 13 reinforced concrete structures and one masonry arch culvert.
