Abstract

Introduction: The objective of this study was to compare the efficacy of Ketofol sedoanalgesia with respect to that obtained with Propofol-fentanyl combination in patients undergoing endoscopic procedures at Hopsital Coromoto from Maracaibo, Zulia state. Materials and methods: A experimental, interventional, comparative study was carried out with a probabilistic sample in 60 patients undergoing digestive endoscopic procedure, which were randomly assigned to be treated with Ketofol (group A: n=30) or Propofol-Fentanyl (group B: n=30). The evaluation of the general characteristics, hemodynamic modifications, Ramsay Scale, Consciousness Recovery Time and Visual Analogous Scale was performed. Results: There were no differences according to the pharmacological group evaluated. Ketofol showed a lower transoperative variability in mean arterial pressure values (Ketofol: 77.3±12.4 vs Propofol Fentanyl: 66.8±8.9; p<0.01) and O2 Saturation (Ketofol: 96, 0±2.2 vs Propofol Fentanyl: 92.7±3.5; p<0.01), with similar Ramsay and VAS score between both groups. Conclusions: this study demonstrates the efficacy and safety of ketofol in the sedoanalgesia of patients undergoing endoscopic study when compared with the propofol-fentanyl combination, representing a novel anesthetic strategy to be specifically explored on a large scale.
