Abstract

Seljuk Khatun, who was one of the seven daughter's of Çelebi Sultan Mehmed, was an owner of charities and good and lived a long life. She donated all the vineyards, gardens, shops, farms, terrains, the house in Bursa and the village which were assigned during the reigns of her brother Murat II., her hephew Fatih (The Conquerer) and her grandnephew Bayezid II. to the charities she had founded. As there were more than one woman named as Seljuk Khatun who founded charities throughout XVth century, some of these charities could not be distinguished. Although some individual studies have been done about Seljuk Khatun, some of the works bounded to the charities which had been founded by her were mixed up with Selçuk binti Mürsel (Mürsel's daughter) or Selçuk binti Bayezid (Bayezid's daughter). Thus all charity works of Seljuk Khatun have been analyzed, the records in the cadastral boks have been taken into account and have been tried to evaluate based on the conditions in the charity. The sources of the study are mainly archieve records of the period. In addition other reviews have been used as well. Moreover, the purpose of the study is to investigate all the charity works of Seljuk Khatun comprehesively. The place and importance of a female donater, who was a member of the dynasty, in the history of Ottoman charities has been a further focus of the study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
