Abstract

The article reports that brothels and betting in New York City added up to more than 2 million U.S. dollars in profits in a 13-month period. It is said that 51-year-old former city police detective Ludwig Paz was the mastermind behind the operations. A Brooklyn bookmaker in the 1950s is said to have enlisted officers as support for his criminal operation. Three sergeants, two detectives, and two officers have been charged in the prostitution enterprise.
