Abstract

The article reports on the chaos at the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park in New York City on September 29, 2018 after the audience heard a gunshot-like sound that ignited fears of shooting. The concertgoers panicked and rushed for a limited number of exits before the police asked them to remain because the sound was just a fence falling over. The chaos forced law enforcement authorities, security experts and policymakers to review ways for curbing the risk of crowd panic.
