The diabetic foot syndrome refers to all the changes caused by diabetes in the foot. In the most advanced stages, diabetic gangrene may occur, most commonly located in one or more toes, and it can extend to the entire leg. Preventive hygiene and care rules must be strictly followed, and early diagnosis of the possible lesions and appropriate treatment at the earliest signs of ulceration can avoid amputation (total or partial) of the affected leg.
