Abstract

At the "Mukoša" quarry near Mostar, the layers of Tenelija Stone (Tenelija) - oolitic limestone, are replaced by layers of Miljevina Stone (Miljevina) - fine grained limestone, where Tenelija is more durable and possesses better physical and mechanical characteristics. Since ancient times they have been used in construction and represent the tradition of the Mostar region. In last twenty years, Tenelija and Miljevina were re-available, both in modern use and in the reconstruction of war-torn buildings. Tests of Tenelija built in the Old Bridge began in the middle of last century. During the restoration and conservation of the foundation and arch of the Old Bridge in 1963. the stone specimens from the Old Bridge were studied, as well as samples taken from the "Mukoša" quarry because of replacement of the damaged blocks in bridge. Within the project of the reconstruction of the Old Bridge extensive studies of physical and mechanical properties of Tenelija from the Old Bridge's remnants were done, as well as of Tenelija extracted from the "Mukoša" quarry two years earlier (Faculty of Civil engineering in Sarajevo, 1998., Geotechnical institute "LGA", Nürnberg, 2000/01). Testings were carried out by "IGH-Mostar" (1998.-2002 and 2006) and bx Faculty of Mining, Geology and Civil Engineering in Tuzla (2003 and 2006). The most extensive research was done in "IGH" Mostar in 2016. This paper gives an analysis of the results of all these Tenelija testings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
