Abstract

It looks like water, feels like water and puts out fires, but that's where the similarity ends. Tyco Safety Products of Marinette, Wisconsin, says the fluid used in its Sapphire Fire Suppression System won't harm rare artifacts or delicate electronics that water will damage. Books and paper marked with water-soluble inks were undamaged after immersion. The fire-fighting fluid is clear, colorless, odorless and leaves no residue. It complies with a National Fire Protection Association standard for clean agent fire protection systems.
