Abstract

Various foreign hemp varieties have come to Slovenia, which until now have not been included in the official introduction. In the first three places with regard to the surface of production from 2015 to 2017 are varieties Fedora 17, USO 31 and KC Dora. In years 2015 and 2106 variety Finola was on the fourth place, while variety Futura 75 was in the fourth place in 2017. On the fifth place in 2017, there was variety Tiborszallasi while variety Finola was in the sixth place. The aforementioned six varieties covered 260 ha of fields in 2017, which is 88% of all fields with hemp. Varieties that come from different European breeding houses and from different geographical areas differ in morphological, physiological and economically important characteristics, and can unexpectedly respond in different growing conditions. In the experimental field of the Slovenian Institute of Hop Research and Brewing, a variety experiment was set up in 2017, in which we included 12 varieties of hemp from EU variety list, in order to determine their response in our growing conditions. The varieties differed in the height of the plants, in the stem production and in the content of essential oil in the inflorescence and in the yield of essential oil per unit area.
