Abstract

The covalency of the chemical bonding in perovskites is shown to lead to correlations of ionic displacements, which can result in the appearance of additional lines in X-ray absorption spectra. These possibilities are discussed in connection with the explanation of the nature of the ferroelectric phase transition in prototype ferroelectrics like BaTiO 3 and KNbO 3 . [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
