Abstract

The article discusses a study that investigated lead content in spices, herbal remedies and ceremonial powders at homes of children with elevated blood lead levels (BLL) in a North Carolina county. Findings showed that 28.8% of samples contained greater than 1mg/kg lead suggesting that contaminated products might represent an important source of childhood lead exposure. Information on race also showed that 67.2% of the children were identified as Asians while 13% were African Americans.
