Abstract
- The article examines Jacobs-Jenkins' version of Dion Boucicault's 1859 melodrama "The Octoroon: Or, Life in Louisiana, which encourages speculation on how racism and audience participation have remained unchanged since the mid-19th century. Topics discussed include comparison between Jacobs-Jenkins' version and Boucicault, and discrepancy between "An Octoroon's treatment of race and gender, masculine blackness and feminine blackness in the Boston production.
