Abstract

Institute of Archaeology in Zagreb continued systematic archaeological excavations at Galovo site near Slavonski Brod in July 2017. The area of 55 m2 on the southwestern edge of the previously excavated part of the settlement was explored. This area mostly coincides with the surface surveyed by geophysical methods in 2016 (Botić 2017a: 144, Fig. 3). Two larger pit features (Figs. 1-3) were partially investigated and a large number of wooden posts of different dimensions were defined. Those two larger features are considerably shallowly dug in than the rest of the pit features from this site indicating younger phase of the settlement. This phase, defined for the first time during this year’s excavation, can be determined as the youngest according to ceramic finds which partly, instead of chaff tempering, exhibit sand tempering or tempering with admixtures of stone and chipped stone debris (Fig. 6).
