COMPLICAÇÕES MULTISSISTÊMICAS DECORRENTES DE HÉRNIA INGUINO-ESCROTAL EM EQUINO.

The aim of the present study was to describe multisystemic complications associated with inguinal hernia in a horse. A 7-year-old Brazilian-saddle horse was referred to veterinary care with moderate abdominal pain, severe dehydration and signs of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS). A laparotomy was indicated and the condition was treated. However, a second laparotomy was required six days after due to incessant pain and reflux. Upon admission the animal had signs of SIRS and showed adynamic ileus, acute renal failure and proximal duodenum-jejunitis during the postoperative period, in addition to respiratory complications and dysphagia. The horse recovered from all these complications but developed laminits and euthanasia was elected due to permanent decubitus. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
