Abstract

The article summarizes the chronology, epidemiology, and virology of the 2018 influenza season in the temperate regions of the southern hemisphere based on influenza activity data collected between January and October 2018. The timing of the 2018 influenza season varied in the countries in the southern cone of South America. Influenza A(H3N2) viruses predominated throughout the season in Chile and Paraguay. Influenza-like illness activity remained below expected levels in Argentina.
