Abstract
- The article reports that Kurds in Syria asked Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on December 28, 2018 to protect them from possible attack by Turkey. The request could help pave the way for the forces of al-Assad to start retaking the Kurdish-held part of the country near Turkey's border. U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that he was withdrawing U.S. troops from Syria. Kurdish People's Protection Units said Syria should send troops to the city of Manbij near the Turkish border.
