Abstract: This article discusses the impact of the minimization of the protected land of Bears Ears National Monument in Utah by President Donald Trump in 2017. The author comments on the reduced funding of paleontological research projects in the region, which contains a density of fossils from the Triassic period as well as ancient Native American artifacts. The redesignation has opened the land to mining, off-road vehicles, and and other environmentally-damaging activities.
