Abstract

The article argues that publicly available genomic data should be treated as open data that has unrestricted use for analysis, interpretation and publication. It comments on the Fort Lauderdale Agreement in 2003 which supports free and unrestricted genome sequencing data use by the scientific community once the data has had an ethical approval for release. It talks about the need for data release policy revisions so that public data is usable by the community in a timely fashion.
