Abstract
- The article offers information on a study concerning bone cement implantation syndrome (BCIS) that occurs in patients undergoing cemented prosthesis insertion for hip fracture repair. Topics discussed include a hypothesis on the association of anesthesia involving tracheal intubation with a reduced prevalence of clinically apparent BCIS; and the need to develop a cost-equivalent non-cemented prostheses to provide similar re-operation and mortality rates, and pain free mobility after surgery.
