Abstract
- The article discusses first part of an old English poem "Christ" referred to as "Christ I" form the "Exeter Book." The available text can be subdivided in twelve passages. Except first three, all passages begin with the exclamation Eala which denotes the beginning of a group of antiphons. The analysis of the poem by Stanley B. Greenfield concentrated on locan in a line of the poem. The article also presents a translation for various lines of the poem. Lines 18-21 of the poem can be translated as "O Thou King and Ruler, He who holds the stronghold, opens life, the heavenward ways, to the blessed one."
