Abstract

The article discusses the laws introduced by governments in Asia to suppress fake news and online malice. Topics covered include fines for people found guilty of fake news under the bill introduced in the parliament of Singapore, how the issue of online disinformation is being used by autocrats like Prayuth Chan-ocha, head of the military junta of Thailand, to curb criticism, and law on social media adopted by Australia in response to the recent mass shooting in New Zealand.
