Discusses the effects of a pharmacist-initiated educational intervention on patient knowledge about the appropriate use of antibiotics in the U.S. Concern that antibiotic resistance can result in increased morbidity, mortality and health care costs; Association of antibiotic resistance with the inappropriate prescribing of antibiotics in the ambulatory care setting; Percentage of antibiotic prescriptions accounted to prescriptions for antibiotics to treat acute upper respiratory tract infections.
