Abstract

In order to improve the accuracy of short-range wireless ultraviolet distance measurement, based on the principle that the pulse response width of wireless ultraviolet communication system increases with the communication distance, the wireless ultraviolet communication pulse broadening ranging method was proposed. Based on Monte Carlo multiple scattering simulation model, the impulse response of wireless ultraviolet communication system after three scatterings in clear weather was studied, and the expression of impulse response was given. The relationship between the half peak and full width, 10% of the pulse width of the system’s impulse response and the communication distance under different elevations of transmitter and receiver are studied, then the formula of pulse broadening ranging was given and compared with the experimental results. The results show that the average ranging error of the half-peak full-width ranging formula is less than 2.8 m, and the average ranging error of the 10% pulse width ranging formula is less than 1.5 m when the transmitting and receiving elevation angle is less than or equal to 20° and the effective ranging is 0~50 m.
