Abstract

The article reflects about two areas of action: anthropology as a discipline and memory as a theme of interest to the studies of anthropology in Chile. The objective is to understand anthropology as a discipline whose methodology and comprehensive and interpretive approach can contribute substantially to the field of memory studies of the recent past. It is proposed that the methodology and reflective uniqueness grants to the discipline with the ability to contribute to knowledge, understanding and reflection of processes and phenomena which do not constitute a closed and finished past, but constitute a lively past and present, and in consequence observable and necessary to examine and problematize. To do this the next itinerary will be pursued: a) areas and themes from the field of memory studies that could potentially be of interest to anthropological studies and b) tools and methodological strategies that can be contributed by the discipline.
