Abstract

Highlights from the article: The author next turns to Harry Wexler (1911-1962), an American meteorologist who in 1939 was awarded a PhD in meteorology under Rossby. The book is well grounded in archival sources, many of them newly uncovered, such as Rossby's letters and Wexler's official and family papers, and presents a wonderful overview of the contributions from the three meteorologists. The chapters covering Vilhelm Bjerknes and Rossby are organised more or less chronologically, and as a result the detail tends to swing back and forth over time periods, whereas the Wexler chapter is, in my opinion, better presented by topic.
